What is faith? (Cont'd)

>According to the Oxford American dictionary, Faith is described as “complete trust or confidence in someone or something” OR“strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.”

I admit, I am puzzled by this continuing insinuation that faith in God consists of a purely irrational decision, that comes only through a “spiritual apprehension RATHER than proof”. Just go to http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/faith and you will see that there is a constant theme that faith goes beyond logic or material proof. It’s as if, again, we people of “faith”, are illogical, irrational and a bunch of lunatics. It is possible that some of my friends fall into this category, perhaps even me, but it is probably not because of “faith”?!

But, what exactly is faith, in terms of definition, character…and what do we have faith in?
Since, so many apologetics like using dictionary definitions in support of their arguments, I too will use the dictionary as a starting point.

Faith is defined, in the first place as, “COMPLETE TRUST…”

 How is Trust defined?
firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.”
If faith is irrational, then how can it be defined, in its character, as a belief in the RELIABILITY AND TRUTH of something or someone?

This surely goes against what such people as Prof Richard Dawkins want to promote? But then again, I’m just a simpleton, an irrational, illogical being…what would I know?!
