Blogging the Psalms

I have taken on the challenge for 2009 to blog my way through the Psalms…yes all 150 of them! I’m linking with a few other people on this unknown journey. We don’t know where we will end up, or what will be uncovered along the way, but we are hoping you will join us.

You can check out the following so far:

I’m aiming initially to post on one Psalm per week, at least while I’m in the midst of crazy study time and due dates looming faster than the speed of light, or so it seems! Of course, posting 1 per week, if you can figure it out, won’t get me through 150 psalms. So we will have to work on a plan somewhere along the way.

I imagine the Psalms are the portion of the Bible that most people seem to relate to, they have a universal appeal, a connection with our humanness that the rest of Scripture doesn’t capture.

“From the earliest days to the present, the Psalms have played a vital part in the life of the Christian community. There is manifold justification for this strong and persistent appeal. Their language is so simple that it is meaningful to a child, yet their thought goes so deep that the philosopher cannot exhaust its treasures. They are beautiful in thought and content both in Hebrew and in its translation. All the moods of the human heart are expressed in them – complaint and praise, penitence and innocence, pessimism and optimism, imprecation and intercession, hate and love, sorrow and joy – yet all the Psalmists moved within the realm of faith in God. In the psalms men wrestle with the universal problems of suffering, sin and death. The Psalms are the faith of the O.T. set to music.” (unknown quote)

Let us wrestle with God through the Psalms, let us dive into their deep treasures, let us feel with the words, and expand our faith in God!

Thanks Carole. I wish I knew where the quote was from. It was in some notes of mine but no reference.
If anyone knows where it is from, let me know

Sonya:

I just looked at your widget in the left column. Wow, I see that you like Don Richardson! I like his Eternity in their hearts and Peace Child. I based my novel Wind Follower on Eternity in their hearts…and the book by wiconi Pastor Richard Twiss, One Church Many Tribes. I also like streams in the desert. Wow, a lot in common! -Carole
