From the basic assumption of “First, there is no God”, this man has now declared “First, there is a God”. Raving Atheist has converted!

Considering I have mentioned a little about the rationale behind faith, I will be watching his blog as he begins the journey of expressing his change. What I appreciate is that he is not afraid to “face the fire” of accusation from fellow atheists, and embrace a new form of thinking. Us Christians will likely applaud, declaring it a victory for our Faith and God… of course this is natural, it enhances our argument, and we can scoff in the face of our accusers.

Perhaps instead of scoffing, we need to take the time to actually look deeper into their assumptions, presumptions and the like. If we are ever to be truly respected among our critics we need to be prepared to hear some of their, can I say, valid ideas. We need to have understanding, sensitivity. The Apostle Paul knew how to do this, he grew up as a Hellenistic, diaspora Jew, adamantly persecuting those who confessed to be Christians. He had a radical conversion that projected him into the “apostle to Gentiles”. As Christians our ultimate desire for the people should be that they come into a relationship with God, for he desires all to come to know him.

How can we do this? We need to contextualise our Gospel, but in order to do this, we must understand the worldview of those whom we wish to reach.
